Significant earwax blockage may need to be removed by your hearing care provider. Two methods that are typically used at a specialist are irrigation and curettage.
The most common way your audiologist will remove your blockage is through irrigation. Our office uses a specialized system called the Earigator. It is a specialized system that uses low pressure and warm, sterilized water to painlessly remove cerumen. We often refer to it as a “spa for your ears”, since it is both effective, and therapeutic all at once!

I recently came in for my annual hearing test and had one of the last appointments of the day. I was also there for a fitting so I could participate in the upcoming ears and beers event. Dr. Morris greeted me when I arrived and performed the hearing test. We then went into her office for the fitting but as luck would have it we were plagued with technical computer errors and despite efforts above and beyond the call of duty Dr. Morris had to hand me off to Dr. Koch to complete the fitting. Her hardware was operating much more smoothly and we finished the fitting. Dr. Koch noticed that my hearing aids had not been adjusted since I arrived in Virginia from Vermont. She was able to make the necessary adjustments to my present hearing aids which are operating much more efficiently. From the support folks at the desk to Drs. Morris and Koch, the professionalism and attention to detail was excellent. I left my appointment knowing that the folks at Evolution are there to provide excellent patient care and I feel fortunate to have found them.

I have ReSound hearing aids, and have been generally pleased with them. However, a week ago, they seemed no longer to work. I tried replacing tips, shields and rinsing out my ears. Nothing worked. Called Dr. Morris. She found that a filter protecting the microphone was clogged, she cleaned or replaced it, and I hear like new. Bravo.

I would highly recommend Evolution Hearing and Dr. Morris. I have found her to be quite knowledgeable, professional, pleasant, and patient. I would also note that she, herself, is a musician and understands the particular concerns of Audiophiles such as myself. It takes a bit of time and a few trips to her office to dial in new hearing aids to perfection. I have found that she knows how to do it, is genuinely happy to do it, and the end result with my hearing aids have exceeded my expectations. Also worth mentioning is the fact that I've never had to wait more than a few minutes after arriving for my appointment to begin and the ladies at the front desk are always cheerful and helpful.
